Where is my refund?
The IRS and Ohio show your refund’s status on their own pages.
Check it yourself, on the agency’s own page
- IRS — Where’s My Refund?Your federal refund, on irs.gov
- Ohio — Check My Refund StatusYour Ohio refund, on tax.ohio.gov
You enter your own Social Security number there — never here. Each page also asks for a few details from the return, so have a copy of it at hand.
What the IRS’s steps mean
The IRS tracker shows three steps:
- Return Received — the IRS has your return and is processing it.
- Refund Approved — the IRS has approved the refund and shows the date it plans to send it.
- Refund Sent — the refund is on its way to your bank, or in the mail as a check.
The IRS updates its tracker about once a day, usually overnight. If the tracker says to contact the IRS, or a letter arrives instead of a refund, send us a copy and we will tell you what it asks for.
A city or school district refund
A city refund comes from RITA or your city’s tax office, and a school district refund comes with Ohio’s. If you are waiting on one, call us at (740) 622-3347.
